Our guest and co-host for the month of January is Kelley Steven-Waiss (@ExtremeKelley).

 

Kelley

Kelley Steven-Waiss serves as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Human Resources where she is responsible for the Company’s global human capital strategies. Kelley oversees every aspect of Extreme Networks’ talent management strategy, including all global staffing, compensation, employee communications, talent development, and business partnering. She excels in aligning people and resources to effectively execute the business strategy. Kelley has 20 years of executive management experience in human resources, change management, and corporate communications. She excels in aligning people and resources to meet business goals in addition to staff development and recruiting. Kelley comes to Extreme Networks from Integrated Device Technology (IDT) where she served as Vice President of Worldwide Human Resources. Prior to IDT, Kelley was Vice President, Worldwide Human Resources for PMC-Sierra. She has also held executive management and consulting positions in large global consulting firms, public software and retail companies. Kelley earned her MA in human resources and organizational development from the University of San Francisco and a BA in journalism from the University of Arizona.

JP Laqueur

For almost 25 years, JP Laqueur has been helping B2B tech companies do a better job telling their story.
JP began his career in the telecom industry supporting the product, marketing and communications efforts of early internet pioneers such as MCI, PanAmSat, Qwest and Broadwing. Since leaving the telecom industry, JP has founded three successful firms: Idea-ware LLC, a boutique marketing communications agency; Idea-ware Digital an early SEO firm; and Brandstone LLC, a boutique brand consultancy. Through these ventures, and as a member of Vistage in NYC, JP became a trusted brand and marketing strategy advisor to executives at leading tech firms such as GTL, Voxel (InterNAP), Symbol (Motorola), WilTel (Level3), Smoothstone, Logicworks and many others.

JP’s current focus is to bridge the worlds of Marketing and Human Resources. As a storyteller, he has always been fascinated by the ability of great brands to capture the imagination of employees, as well as customers and prospects. By fusing elements of branding with organizational & cultural development, JP proves it is possible for organizations to transcend the over-used language of features & benefits and get to the heart of what makes them truly different: their people and culture.

By aligning the the efforts of HR and Marketing in this manner, companies achieve deeper employee engagement, greater customer loyalty and higher enterprise valuation. Or as he likes to put it, “Happier people, healthier companies.”

 

Sally Thornton

Sally Thornton founded Forshay to build a new business model for how top talent can engage with some of the Bay Area’s most progressive companies, through an on-demand model that provides ‘just enough’ structure to support their best work, or through direct-hire opportunities. Sally has extensive experience addressing the unique talent needs of the Bay Area’s most remarkable companies, having worked with iconic leaders such as Genentech and Levi Strauss, rapid-growth start ups including ngmoco:) and Sonos, and radically creative companies like Method Home and IDEO. Prior to creating Forshay, Sally co-founded Flexperience in 2006, growing it into a nationally acclaimed talent firm that was named in 2010 to San Francisco Business Times’ “Top 100 Fastest Growing Private Companies”.

As a thought leader on the future of work and talent, Sally has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, KQED radio, Forbes, NBC11 News, ABC7 News, Entrepreneur.com, ABC’s View From the Bay, and BNET.com. She has presented to audiences ranging from large business conferences to guest lectures at both Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. Sally works with Stanford’s “Redesigning and Redefining Work” project to support efforts to restructure workplaces so they are more aligned with the lives of today’s workforce and so companies can better harness talent for their success. Sally is a frequent keynote speaker on the topics of the future of work, talent recruitment and engagement strategies, how to increase the number of women in leadership, and how to apply research on happiness & meaningfulness into a practical work/life blend. Sally is honored to be on the Advisory Council of Stanford’s Clayman Institute for Gender Research, which is the educational partner of LeanIn.org.
